Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a soft edged Gua massage tool with short and long strokes. The feeling is pleasant, and you may feel heat in the area being treated.

Gua Sha helps to move stagnant energy, called Chi (or Qi), in Chinese medicine, whilst also stimulating the blood flow, the lymphatic system and helps with moving any inflammation out of the area to be detoxed from the body.

Inflammation is the underlying cause of many conditions associated with chronic pain. Rubbing the skin’s surface helps to help break up this energy, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.

Gua sha is generally performed on a person’s back, buttocks, neck, arms, and legs. A gentle version of it is even used on the face as a facial technique. Mild pressure is used, which may gradually increase  to determine how much is required and tolerated.

You may expect to feel lighter, more energy and circulation in the treated area after the session. Gua Sha is combined in combination with Bowen Therapy and other Fascial Release techniques applicable to individual requirements.

Gua Sha can be used to treat the following:

*Chronic neck inflammation, neck pain, migraines and dowager's hump

*Tennis/Golfers elbow and carpal tunnel

*Trigger point spasms and chronic tension in shoulders, hips, pelvis, sacrum, knee, glutes and feet.

This therapy is not advised for people who are taking blood thinners or have clotting disorders.
